The PAGES 2k Network conducted an online seminar series 20 May - 8 Nov 2021.
Today's seminar - 2 June at 13:00 UTC
Raphael Neukom will present "Recent global temperature reconstructions from the PAGES2k Consortium: Concepts, challenges, and implications".
Description
The PAGES 2k Network has undertaken large efforts over the past 15 years to collect, pre-process and share paleoclimate data covering the last 2000 years.
The PAGES 2k temperature database has been used by two subgroups of the 2k Network to reconstruct global-mean and gridded temperatures in a coordinated effort. The results were used to put the spatial consistency and rate of current warming into a long-term context and assess the influence of external forcings vs. internal variability on decadal-scale global temperatures.
This talk will report on the development of these reconstruction efforts, main results, and interpretations. Some key challenges in the reconstruction process and the use of the results for data-model comparison, and detection and attribution will also be highlighted.
