The PAGES (Past Global Changes) project and the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) will be co-organizing a webinar on “Interdisciplinary and international collaborative networks to promote past global change research in Latin America and the Caribbean”.
The webinar will gather some of the most renowned scientists from around the world, as well as early-career researchers, to discuss the challenges and opportunities of international and interdisciplinary collaboration and pathways to involve researchers from low- and middle-income countries in this network.
To tackle this challenge, PAGES and IAI have launched a fellowship program to promote paleoscience networks in Latin America and the Caribbean, supporting early-career scientists from these regions to pursue international research experience. The PAGES-IAI International Mobility Research Fellowship Program for Latin American and Caribbean early-career scientists on past global changes supports early-career scientists pursuing international research experience in paleoscience and is intended to support costs associated with international travel and living expenses while abroad (airfares, visas, health/travel insurance, and subsistence costs for the fellow only).
In this webinar, early-career researchers funded by PAGES will share some experiences and lessons learned with the audience.
About PAGES
PAGES´ scope of interest is broad and diverse, including the physical climate system, biogeochemical cycles, ecosystem processes, biodiversity, and human dimensions, on all timescales, within paleoscience. The primary objective is to improve understanding of past changes in the Earth system to improve projections of future climate and environment, and inform strategies for sustainability. El proyecto PAGES (Past Global Changes) y el Instituto Interamericano para la Investigación del Cambio Global (IAI) han coorganizado un webinario sobre “Redes colaborativas interdisciplinarias e internacionales para promover la investigación sobre cambios globales pasados en América Latina y el Caribe”. El ámbito de interés de PAGES es amplio y diverso, e incluye el sistema climático físico, los ciclos biogeoquímicos, los procesos ecosistémicos, la biodiversidad y las dimensiones humanas, en todas las escalas temporales, dentro de la paleociencia. El objetivo principal es comprender mejor los cambios pasados en el sistema de la Tierra para mejorar las proyecciones del clima y el medio ambiente futuros e informar estrategias para la sostenibilidad. La misión del IAI es desarrollar y mejorar la coordinación internacional de la investigación científica y económica sobre el alcance, las causas y las consecuencias del cambio global en las Américas.
En 2021, PAGES y el IAI lanzaron un programa conjunto de becas para promover las redes de paleociencia en América Latina y el Caribe, apoyando a científicos de carrera temprana en la búsqueda de carreras internacionales y promoviendo la investigación en laboratorios de la región. En este seminario web, los beneficiarios de las becas compartirán algunas de sus experiencias en el programa y algunas de las lecciones aprendidas. Estarán acompañados por científicos de renombre de América del Sur para discutir los desafíos y oportunidades de la colaboración internacional e interdisciplinaria y las vías para involucrar a investigadores de países de bajos y medianos ingresos en esta red.
