LandCover6k News


In July 2020, the Land Use (LU) group of LandCover6k released a progress update. Read it here (pdf, 83KB).

In June 2020, LandCover6k took up the PAGES IPO offer to extend the working group for one additional year, due to COVID-19 disruptions. The group will now finish in December 2021.


LandCover6k members have proposed sessions at the following international conferences:

Global Land Programme 4th Open Science Meeting (24-26 April 2019, Bern Switzerland): "The deep history of global land use change – needs and potentials for earth system modelling and understanding of socio-ecological systems."

Submit an abstract by 30 October 2018. All details:

20th INQUA Congress (25-31 July 2019, Dublin, Ireland): "Upscaling palaeoecological, archaeological and historical records of land-use and landcover change to the globe for earth system modelling and sustainable land-system management"

Keep an eye out here in the future for the LandCover6k Newsletter. Following the start of Phase 2, the working group plans to release information in this new format every four to five months. The first edition is scheduled for November 2018.

Blog post

Crystal McMichael wrote the blog article "Exploring the Llanos de Moxos, Bolivia" which discusses her time at the LandUse6k meeting at the International Meeting of Amazonian Archaeology in Trinidad, Bolivia, in early October 2017. LandUse6k, based at the University of Chicago, is a direct contributor to LandCover6k.


Group leader Marie-José Gaillard and PAGES Executive Director Marie-France Loutre will be speaking at the QRA Annual Discussion Meeting at the University of Plymouth, UK, from 3-5 January 2018. All details here.
