Become a PAGES SSC member

PAGES holds an annual call for applications from scientists to serve on its Scientific Steering Committee (SSC).

The next deadline for applications is 11 March 2024.

PAGES activities are overseen by the SSC. The SSC represents a broad spectrum of disciplines and nationalities, and includes scientists at different career stages. The continuing success of PAGES relies on the input of these people.

SSC tasks include:
– Overall responsibility for the PAGES project
– Developing and promoting PAGES' scientific agenda
– Communicating with the PAGES International Project Office
– Acting as a liaison to PAGES workshop organizers and working groups
– Representing PAGES at meetings
– As opportunities arise, SSC members may also host PAGES workshops, guest edit Past Global Changes Magazine or journal issues, and coordinate national PAGES activities.

Scientists who serve on the SSC normally do so for a period of three years, with the potential of renewal for an additional term.

Who can apply?

Any interested individual can apply to become a PAGES SSC member. Calls for applications are made on a regular basis. The applications are considered by the Executive Committee (EXCOM) of the SSC at their biannual meetings, in consultation with the entire SSC.

During the assessment process, not only is the EXCOM looking for scientific excellence and a high level of commitment to PAGES goals, but also to achieve a balance across the SSC in expertise, nationalities, gender, and career stage. View the current SSC membership status, including nationalities and paleoscientific expertise already represented.

Selected candidates are then recommended to PAGES' parent organization Future Earth for final approval.

To apply - Part A

Please email your application as one single pdf, in the following order, to the Executive Director Marie-France Loutre:

1. A statement outlining your goals and plans for PAGES as an SSC member (max. 1 page)
2. Your CV (max. 4 pages)

To apply - Part B

In order for your application to be complete, you must ask for two letters of support from scientists within the scientific scope of PAGES (each max. 1 page).

These letters of support must be emailed by the supporting scientists, by the deadline date, directly to the Executive Director Marie-France Loutre.

Retaining your application

PAGES IPO will retain your application for a further year after the date of submission. If you are unsuccessful in the initial round, your application will be valid for the following round, if you agree to still be included as a nominee. You will be contacted before the closing date to ensure your approval.
