This symposium will bring together paleo- and modern climatologists, data-producers and modelers, working on monsoon variations in different regions. The objectives are to compare monsoon records and simulations from various regional monsoon systems, to find out their similarities and differences across a range of timescales, and to unravel the mechanisms causing variations of the global monsoon system and of regional deviations from the global trend.

The major topics of the symposium will include:

1. Global monsoon in modern vs paleoclimatology

2. Global vs regional monsoon systems

3. Modeling the monsoons: Mechanism and processes of monsoon variations
