The proposed workshop aims to bring together renowned scientists from different disciplines that have a close link to past biomass burning reconstruction through using different archives (wetlands, soils, lake and marine deposits, ice cores), proxies (charcoal records, specific molecular markers and other pyrochemical and palynological evidences) and state-of-art coupled vegetation-fire models. All this should provide much-needed information on the role of fire in driving past climate and the possibility of current biomass burning affecting future global climate. The workshop will be primarily focussed on the Holocene and the past.
